2027 Ford Explorer Trims and Configurations
The 2027 Ford Explorer comes in five trims: Active, ST-Line, Tremor, Platinum and ST. Every one seats six as standard with captain’s chairs, pairs an EcoBoost engine to a 10-speed automatic, and tows 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, so choosing between them is about drivetrain, attitude and equipment rather than capability.

2027 Ford Explorer Active and ST-Line
V
Active is the entry point and carries the equipment most buyers actually shop for: the 300-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost, the 13.2-inch touchscreen with Ford Digital Experience, the 12.3-inch digital cluster and Ford Co-Pilot360 driver aids. Rear-wheel drive is standard and Intelligent 4WD is available.
ST-Line keeps that powertrain and adds the sport-styled treatment, giving you the ST’s look without the V6. Both trims can delete the roof rails through the Slick Roof Conversion, and both can be ordered with the panoramic Vista Roof for 2027.

2027 Ford Explorer Tremor
V
Tremor is the off-road-oriented Explorer and the only one that comes exclusively with four-wheel drive. It comes standard with the 300-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost and offers the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which is worth having when a loaded family SUV meets a mountain grade.
One configuration detail matters when you are comparing: Tremor seats six and does not offer the second-row bench, so it is a six-passenger vehicle. New for 2027, Tremors ordered with the V6 can add the Sun and Sound Package, which brings an upgraded B&O audio system, massaging front seats and a power moonroof.

2027 Ford Explorer Platinum and ST
V
Platinum is the luxury pick, with quilted leather available and BlueCruise hands-free highway driving equipped along with a complimentary plan. Its headline change for 2027 is that the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 can finally be ordered here, which was not possible in 2026, and that upgrade brings its own wheel design and interior treatment.
ST is the performance version, V6 only, with BlueCruise equipped as well. For 2027 it offers the new Sinister Package, which adds an exclusive wheel style and amber accent lights. Note that Ford rates the V6 at up to 400 horsepower, with 385 in states following California emissions rules.
